Mary and Joseph Junior School, founded in 2016, is dedicated to tansforming the lives of disadvantaged and vulnerable children. Our school serves children from impoverished backgrounds who otherwise would not have access to education. We are commited to breaking the cycle of poverty by offering quality education from nursery to primary levels.

FOUNDING DIRECTOR

Fr. Titus Ahabyona Winyi, a devoted Catholic Priest and Diocesan Priest of Fort Portal Diocese, established MAry and Joseph Junior School in 2016 in the rural setting of Butiiti, Kyenjojo District, with a clear aim: to bring hope, education, and opportunity to the most vulnerable children in the area. His deep cimmitment to serving under-privileged communities and his pastoral experience in rural Uganda fueled his desire to address the challenges faced by families in the region, particularly those struggling with poverty and lack of access to quality education.

Butiiti, like many rural areas in Uganda, suffers from high levels of poverty, limited infrastructure and scarce education opportunities.
Fr. Titus therefore founded an environment that could enable children break free from the cycle of poverty through learning, spiritual growth, and holistic development.

OUR FUTURE PLANS AND PROJECTS

At Mary and Joseph Junior School, we are committed to continually improving the learning environment and overall well-being of our students. Over the years, we have undertaken various projects aimed at ensuring that our students receive the care and support they need.
Below are some of the key projects that define our future goals.

DORMITORY CONSTRUCTION

As part of our goal to make education accessible to children from distant villages, we have embarked on the costruction of dormitories for both boys and girls. By constructing dormitories, we will reduce time travel time for students from remote areas, increase time spent in conducive learning environment, improve on children's rest hence better concentration and performance.

SCHOOL FARM EXPANSION

We acknowledge the importance of proper nutrition in enhancing student's academic performance and overall well-being. To support our feeding program, we plan to expand the existing school farm by growing more bananas, rearing cows, which will not only provide nutritious meals for students, but also serve as practical resource for agriculture skilling and reduce on operational costs related to food purchases hence provision sustainability.

BOREHOLE CONSTRUCTION

Access to clean water is essential for both the school and community yet currently, water scarcity remains a major challenge. To address this, we are working on constructing a borehole that will provide reliable access to clean water for school activities, improved health and hygiene for students hence reduction in water-borne diseases and community access to water.

FEEDING PROGRAM ENHANCEMENT

Proper nutrition is key to learning and through our partnership with the school farm, we have always made it possible for our children. However, as enrollment increases, so does the demand for resources to maintain the program. Therefore, we want to emabark more on proper nutrition to ensure that all stdents are physically and metally prepared for learning, reduce the family burden fro those that struggle to provide meals for their children and also improve attendance and concentration in class.

PASTORAL CARE AND COUNSELING SERVICES

Many of our students have experienced or are prone to trauma and hardships due to their backgrounds. This project comes in to support children's emotional and social devlopment through providing a safe space where students can talk about their experiences and receive guidance and comfort to heal, hence better performance and improved development of social and coping skills.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT AND SUPPORT

Our school is deeply rooted in the community and we believe in giving back by offering services that benefit local familes. From agricultural produce to clean water(once the borehole is constructed), we strive to involve the community in our activities so as to strengthen ties, improve community living standards and create a collaborative environment.
